Mystery Ranch 2day Assault - Packages are one of those items that can make or break an adventure. If the pack is too small, there may be a risk that not all the necessary equipment will be packed to survive for a long time.
On the other hand, if the pack is too big for the adventure, there may be a risk of overpacking. And it makes you tired because of the extra weight.
Mystery Ranch 2day Assault
Mystery Ranch's 2-Day Assault Pack, priced at $219.00, is an option on the market that works for day hikes, vehicle panniers, or 48-hour patrols.

Outside of the 2 Days, Mystery Ranch placed five MOLLE panels on the front. And three MOLLE panels on both sides. MOLLE panels offer options for attaching additional pouches to the pack.
Or in my case by putting carabiners through the panels. In addition to the MOLLE panel, there are two compression straps to tighten the pack. Compression straps help keep packed gear from shifting around on the trail or mission.
The 2 Day has an adjustable back yoke with lifting strap, strap and plastic body plate. One thing to note about the 2 Days is that although it comes in two sizes, S/M and L/XL, users will need to make some adjustments to the frame sheet to fit the pack.
The chest strap holders on the shoulder straps have bungee cords to hold communication cables or hydration lines. In addition to the shoulder straps, the 2 Day has a detachable belt. This belt is not a padded waist belt, but distributes some of the weight of the pack on the user's hips.

On the right side of the back of the 2 Days, you will find a quick zip on the inner sleeve of the main compartment.

The top of the 2 Day Assault Pack features the 3-ZIP and Y design that Mystery Ranch uses on most of their packs. Two zippered pockets and a tape strip are built into the top flap.
Two zippered pockets make it easy to store small devices or navigation tools. All exterior Mystery Ranch zippers are also coated with urethane to protect gear from getting wet. The 2-day loop ribbon badge provides space for a morale or callsign tag.

Open the 2-Day by pulling the top flap up and away from the body of the package. With the 2-day top flap open, the user can access the main compartment to retrieve the items on top of the pack. Pull the center zipper down to open the main compartment and spread out the two sides of the pack.
Inside are two internal drain pouches that hold Nalgene bottles, three M4 magazines, or three .308 magazines. The main compartment also has two mesh pockets for storing smaller items like pens, 3x5 cards or extra batteries. I would have liked the meshes to be deeper, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

In addition to these four pockets, the 2 Day has two hanging sleeves behind the main compartment. The first cover is for storing your tablet or documents.

Behind this cover is a padded cover that can hold up to a 15-inch laptop or hydration bladder. Mystery Ranch also includes a hanging tab for the bladder when you store it in the padded sleeve.
My husband and I enjoy day trips to the PNW. Since we hiked around, I couldn't find a daypack that met my needs.
I recently took the 2 Day Assault Pack on a day trip and was pleased with its performance. It has enough space to pack what we need for walking. And other spare things in case our trip takes longer than expected.
In addition, the 2 Days works well as a bag at home that can be kept in the car in case of an emergency. For my purposes, the 2 Days will serve me well on future day trips my wife and I take.

Tim Gauthier served in the Ohio Army National Guard's 2nd Squadron, 107th Cavalry Regiment during college and was commissioned as an Army Infantry Officer. On active duty, he served as the Opposing Forces Airborne Infantry Team Leader and Staff Officer with the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment out of the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk. Sometimes it can be an endless journey to find the right package for your adventures, with all the features and capabilities you want. I've used many packs that have good organization inside, but lack comfort once the pack is loaded. I wanted a pack with good internal organization, adjustability, comfort and durability that could be used for shooting competitions, range use and travel.
The author tested the Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack "in the real world" for this review. It worked wonderfully.
The Mystery Ranch packs fit the bill but were a bit pricey for me, that was until they released the 2 Day Assault Pack (DAP). This pack is basically one of their everyday carry packs, but it has a healthy dose of DNA from their military 3 day assault pack.

For about $200 shipped from Amazon, I had one on my doorstep in just a few days. Now on the front, this packaging is not made in the USA, it is made in Vietnam. However, overseas production facilities must adhere to Mystery Ranch's strict quality control procedures. I have no reason to doubt this as the build quality of my 2 DAPs is impeccable.
The packing cloth is 500D Cordura nylon, which gives it strength and durability and helps keep the overall weight of the package low. The internal seams are fixed with nylon tape, which protects the seams from damage and gives a clean look from the inside.
Strong bartack stitching secures nylon PALS webbing to the outside of the pack, while Duraflex buckles and YKK zippers complete the outside of the pack. Similar to the larger 3 DAP pack, the pack has two compression straps that run across the pack, but only the top one extends to the sides. It comes with a simple nylon mesh belt that secures the pack around the waist to help distribute the load, but if you don't want that, it's easy to remove.
Mystery Ranch designed this pack with an adjustable yoke and a padded shoulder strap for all-day comfort.

However, for me one of the main reasons to get the 2 DAP was to try out the adjustable yoke system that Mystery Ranch uses on most of their packs. Their yoke system is a simple and ingenious way to adjust the pack to the user's body to maximize comfort and weight distribution. Many packs with adjustable frames only allow you to make adjustments at predetermined points, and if you somehow miss an adjustment, you just have to. All the adjustments you need to make to the yoke system are organic to the kit and it only took me about 10 minutes to fit the kit perfectly.
The capacity is at 1,650 cu/in, which was something I was concerned about at first because it's smaller than the packs I usually go for. Pull open the pack's iconic Tri-Zip assembly to reveal multiple interior pockets to help organize my gear.
The back of the pack has a laptop pocket accessed from the outside via a vertical zip, a smaller slit, two zipped mesh pockets and two long open pockets. The cover has two zippered compartments with Velcro on top for your favorite moral areas. The first compartment is small, but just right for first aid kits, keys, phones, anything you want easy access to. The larger compartment has a mesh base and is where I store tools and items I need for shooting, such as a laser rangefinder, Kestrel 5700 Elite, lens cloth, etc.
On the outside of the pack are two bottle pockets, which are probably a little big for a Nalgene bottle, but perfect for oddly shaped gear or things you want to keep close at hand.
