If approved by the House of Representatives this week, this will be the third stimulus package since the country's economy was rocked by COVID-19. Once the bill is signed into law, the Internal Revenue Service will process more than 100 million payments, which will be sent via one of several delivery methods.
Feds Sent $1.4b In Stimulus Checks To More Than 1 Million Dead People
For single taxpayers, anyone with an adjusted gross income of less than $75,000 is eligible for the full $1,400, according to Sara Spodick, director of the Quinnipiac University Tax Clinic, a group that helps low-income people file. deal with your problems with the IRS
If your adjusted gross income is between $75,000 and $80,000, $1,400 will be reduced through what is called a "phasing in." For individuals filing jointly, adjusted gross income is limited to less than $160,000. The IRS will base your stimulus payment amount on information from an individual's 2019 tax return.
For an individual taxpayer, the average amount they'll receive is $1,400, Spodick said. Because the rules governing the third stimulus payment are still changing, it's hard to determine the minimum amount someone can receive.
In previous rounds, college students were not considered dependent. This time, an additional $1,400 will go to 2019 tax filers for every college student.

One caveat, Spodick said, is that if a college student collected unemployment last year, the money goes to them instead of the person who filed the tax return.
If you have a baby in 2020, the child will be declared a dependent. Spodick said the tax filer will be eligible to claim the Recapture Credit on their 2020 federal income tax return next spring.
That depends on when the latest bill is signed into law, which is likely to be on March 14. If so, the first payments will be sent on April 1st. Those with direct deposit capabilities at their banks and credit unions will likely get the first payments.
Those who receive stimulus payments via physical checks or Economic Impact Payment (EIP) cards will start to see their money from the government later in the month.

These estimates come with a caveat: The IRS could mess up the check-writing process, potentially delaying government payments until May.
"This is a very busy time for the IRS," Spodick said. “They are processing 2020 tax returns in addition to sending out stimulus payments.”
About two weeks after the IRS sends your payment, you should receive a letter from the agency confirming the payment and telling you how to contact the agency if there are any problems.

1. Seal of the Treasury. The new stamp will read "Bureau of the Fiscal Service" once the stock is verified, showing that the "Financial Management Service" (FMS) is out of stock.
2. Bleeding ink. The Treasury seal, to the right of an image of the Statue of Liberty, has security ink that will run and turn red when the black ink on the stamp becomes wet.
3. Microprinting. Microprinted words are so small that they look like a line to the naked eye. But when magnified, the words are visible. The microprint cannot be duplicated by a photocopier and when a check is forged, it often appears as a solid line or series of dots. The United States. This Treasury check has an area on the back where "USAUSAUSA" appears repeatedly in such small print.
4. Watermarks. All stimulus checks were printed on paper with a watermark reading "U.S. TREASURY," which can be seen from the front and back of the check when held up to a light. The watermark is clear and cannot be copied with a photocopier Any check without a watermark should be suspected as counterfeit or copied.

5. Ultraviolet overprint. A protective ultraviolet pattern, invisible to the naked eye, consisting of four lines of "FMS" will be bracketed with the FMS seal on the left and the symbol of the US seal - an eagle - on the right. This pattern can usually be found in the payer information and dollar amount area.
The FMS pattern and stamps can be viewed under a black light. If the value box is changed in any way, a gap will be created in the ultraviolet area.
When exposed to black light, the ink used in the pattern and stamp will glow. This fluorescent quality cannot be duplicated. Starting in 2013, a new ultraviolet pattern was introduced on the check stock consisting of four lines repeating the words "TAX SERVICE". In addition, the stamp was changed to read "Office of the Fiscal Service" and could be viewed until the stock of the previous check was depleted.
6. Name of the President. Checks will have these words on the lower right side of the Statue of Liberty: “Economic Impact Payment. President Donald J. Trump".
